TIFF's interactive digiPlaySpace returns this weekend with tons to keep the little ones (and their guardians) occupied, just in time for Family Day! As a young kid at heart, I was kind of jealous that I couldn't put the camera down myself and join in. Get in on the lights, movement, and sounds from February 18-April 23 at TIFF Bell Lightbox.
This marks my third year shooting for TIFF. We're only into day 4, and I'm a bit tired, but it's been a ride shooting so far -- from Cary Elwes making his return as Westley to a Skype date with Malala, to breathing the same air as Matt Damon. The big opening weekend is almost over, and I'm hoping I'll be able to get a little more sleep soon. Until then, I will continue clickin'...
Oh, you know, just HANGING OUT IN THE GREEN ROOM WITH ETHAN HAWKE AND SEYMOUR BERNSTEIN. That is all.
My TIFF, 2013: 11 days, 45 events, 2 throbbing feet, 1 pair of hunched shoulders, and 1 right hand permanently shaped in a camera-holding claw.
At first I thought this chaotic gig would be a strictly red carpet, celebrity-snapping job, but luckily, I was tasked to cover the gamut of Festival offerings beyond that, including the Doc Conference and some epic industry parties, observed Deepa Mehta work with future filmmakers in the Talent Lab program, met some great photographers (particularly the chill dudes in the Midnight Madness pit), and sat in on multiple conversations and Q&As, notably one with the gushworthy Spike Jonze. Heart! Be still!
So as lovely as my sleep-in was this morning (and boy, it sure was lovely), I have to admit I'm already experiencing the subtle effects of Festival photography withdrawal. Maybe, just maybe, I'm a sucker for pain... But, you know, perhaps the pay-off was kinda worth it.
See you next year?
